St John's Primary Academy

Being the 'best' learners

To be able to access our Curriculum we believe children should learn how to be successful life long learners.

At St. John’s we believe it is important to encourage and enable learners to think for themselves; take responsibility for what they do; and play a part in managing their own learning.

Pupils are encouraged and given opportunities to:

  • Think for themselves.
  • To know where the equipment is in the classroom.
  • To listen carefully so that they know what to do.
  • Set themselves challenges.
  • Respond to teachers’ feedback.
  • Seek help when needed.
  • Take responsibility for achieving their targets.
  • Manage their own behaviour.
  • Think hard.
  • Persevere and try their best.
  • See failure as a route to success.

Each class has created and agreed strategies for developing independent learning.
