Pupil Premium and Sports Premium
What is the Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium funding is additional funding allocated to all schools to support disadvantaged pupils. St John's Primary Academy receives pupil premium for: children that are cared for or adopted from care; children whose parents are in the armed forces; and for every pupil who is entitled to a free school meal.
How can I find out if my child is entitled to the Pupil Premium funding?
The process for applying is straightforward and confidential. You can speak to Mrs Morgan or Ms Bailey, the school administrators, who will be able to assist you through this process. All enquires will be treated in confidence. If you would like more information about FSM, please go to :

Children in Reception and KS1 are automatically entitled to a free school lunch; however, registering your child for free meals will entitle them to additional support with the cost of school visits, after school events and extra-curricular clubs, as well as funding extra academic support within school.

School Sports Premium
What is the Sports Premium?
The government is continuing to provide funding to support P.E and sport. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture and Media and Sport. As in previous years the additional money, which is ring-fenced for improving the provision of P.E and sport, is allocated to schools who then have the freedom to choose how this is to be achieved.
Purpose of Funding
Schools have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport. Possible uses for the funding include:
- Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE.
- New or additional Change 4 Life sports clubs.
- Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport.
- Providing cover to release primary teachers for professional development in PE/sport.
- Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in school games.
- Buying quality assured professional development modules or materials for PE/sport.
- Providing places for pupils on after school sport clubs and holiday clubs.
- Providing outdoor learning and fitness related activities.
How we are spending the Sports Funding and who benefits?
As a school we have agreed that the money must be used so that:
- All children benefit regardless of sporting ability,
- That staff have access to working alongside specialists and have opportunities for training
- That there are a greater variety of extracurricular opportunities for PE/sport
- That children are given opportunities to compete in a range of tournaments and competitions
- That children learn how to live a healthy lifestyle and stay fit
Reporting on the School Sports Premium
Schools are required to include details of their provision of PE and sport on their website, along with information regarding extra-curricular clubs and future action plans.
