Pastoral Support

At St John's, we believe that 'championing' our children goes beyond supporting them just academically. Supporting our pupils socially and emotionally is an important part of our role. We want our pupils to appreciate themselves as individuals, understand their relationships with others and participate in society as competent and caring people.

We run pastoral programmes every afternoon for individuals and small groups. These can focus on a range of areas including self esteem, positive friendships, conflict resolution, zones of regulation and others. Mrs Coucom is our ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and she runs these sessions working with pupils and communicating regularly with parents.

Children may complete programmes over a series of weeks or receive ongoing support over a sustained period of time. We review the sessions each term and the impact they have had on our pupils. Mrs Coucom works closely with Mrs Holt, our SENCO to co-ordinate these provisions.
